Our nation owns an original copy of the Magna Carta and it is on display at the Capitol along with the Declaration, the Bill of Rights and our other original founding documents. We do not display a copy of any other nation's important document along with our founding documents.

I am very sad about the wanton destruction of what is, very much to me at least, our mother country.Marianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16646992.post-54718142803685171602010-11-03T11:17:58.436-10:002010-11-03T11:17:58.436-10:00I recently posted a comment at a Daily Mail articl...I recently posted a comment at a Daily Mail article about the Petit murders. I've never encountered a website that makes you jump through as many hoops as the DM does just to post a comment (I think I "agreed to the House rules" three separate times). In my comment I called Mr. Petit a coward for saving his own skin while his family was being raped and murdered. Later I received an email from the "community" informing me that my account had been permanently disabled and that if I should ever attempt to post at the DM again they would contact my ISP and my employer to see that action was taken against me. Auster is right when he calls Britain "the Dead Island."

Luckily for me, I'm not an Anglophile. The loss of GB doesn't bother me any more than the overall loss of Europe does. I'll add that there's something about British-ness (I'm not sure what) that inspires my contempt.

In the US they may not have the Cairngorms, the River Wye, cream teas, University Challenge, Cotswold villages or decent curries.

Even the "conservative" Brit can't help but talk up the rich enriching richness of the Other's cuisine. If you want a decent curry, go to Bombay.Van Wijknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16646992.post-35574863931505993252010-11-03T01:54:35.238-10:002010-11-03T01:54:35.238-10:00It’s not just the Third World shabbiness which is ...It’s not just the Third World shabbiness which is so dispiriting.

I'm less sure about the main thesis, but I can certainly sympathize with this observation.ehnoreply@blogger.com
